KIOTO sells 2 megawatt photovoltaic power plant to Verbund (Austrian National Grid) subsidiary in Spain

KIOTO Photovoltaics Iberica has sold a 2 MW photovoltaic power plant in the Andalusian province of Jaen to the VERBUND Austria company, Renewable Power GmbH (ARP). The plant went into operation in July 2008 and as Ulrike Baumgartner-Gabitzer, the responsible member of the Verbund board, explains, “With the purchase of this photovoltaic plant, Verbund has taken an initial step towards the expansion of its electricity generation activities using environmentally compatible, renewable energies.”

Key indicators of the photovoltaic power plant

The plant generates around 3.7 million kWh of electricity annually, which means that the yearly needs of some 1,000 households can be met by means of environment-friendly solar power. Some 11,000 photovoltaic modules have been installed on an area roughly equal to 15 football pitches and KIOTO is naturally delighted to have obtained the Austrian Verbund as a strategic partner with a long-term orientation for the future technology photovoltaics.

Spain - an attractive photovoltaic market

Spain is one of Europe’s sunniest countries and disposes over optimum radiation values. Accordingly, the Spanish solar energy market is developing in an extremely dynamic manner. Alone in the period up to the end of January 2008, feed commitments of around 624 MW had been submitted for photovoltaic plants.

VERBUND-Austrian Renewable Power GmbH
VERBUND-Austrian Renewable Power GmbH (ARP) is a fully owned subsidiary of Österreichische Elektrizitätswirtschafts-AG (Verbund). The company was founded in autumn 2007 and has the objective of further expanding the Verbund generation mix, which is already highly environment-friendly, with additional power plant capacity in the new renewable energy sector (wind power, photovoltaic, small-scale hydropower, biomass and geothermal plants, etc.). ARP is seeking to further develop environment- and climate-friendly energy generation, which also offers the protective use of resources, in both a technical and economic sense, and to secure this technology on a sustainable basis.
